DVSA Alert: Upcoming Driving Test Changes

If you’re planning to shift your driving test location, you need to be aware of an important update. Starting 9 June 2026, the DVSA is rolling out the final phase of its strict new booking system. From this date, you will no longer be able to move your test to just any centre in the country.

The New “3 Nearest Centres” Rule:

• The Location Lock: You can only move an existing booking to one of the three nearest test centres to your original slot.
• No More Hop-Scotch: The common trick of booking a random slot hundreds of miles away just to “secure a date” and hoping to move it back home later is officially dead.
• The 2-Change Limit: Remember, you are still strictly limited to a maximum of two changes per booking (including date, time, or centre) before you are forced to cancel and start over.

This change is designed to stop automated bots and black-market booking services from hoarding slots, making the grid fairer for real learners. However, it means your very first booking choice needs to be deliberate. If you book in a random city, you will be legally “locked” into that specific local cluster.

Preparing for your test? Talk to your instructor before you lock in a location. You must be completely confident driving on the specific road types and junctions of that test area, as wide-area swapping is no longer an option.
