If you have a special requirement you will need to ensure that you request this at the time of booking your Theory Test. The DVSA provide a number of different facilities including:

• Extra time
• British Sign Language interpretation
• Translator assisted tests

Reading difficulties

If you have reading difficulties such as dyslexia you can ask for an English or Welsh voiceover. You may be eligible for up to double time for the multiple-choice part of the Theory Test, but you will be required to send in evidence of your reading difficulty to the Theory Test booking customer services.

Hearing difficulties

If you have hearing difficulties or are deaf you can ask to take your Theory Test in British Sign Language (BSL). The BSL interpretation will run alongside the standard test questions and answers.
However, if you do not use British sign language, you can take an interpreter into the test centre with you. You will need to arrange for this facility with the Theory Test customer services section.

Taking the Theory Test in another language

From the 7th April 2014, the DVSA removed the option to take a Theory Test in any language other than English, Welsh or British Sign Language. This means that you no longer have the option of taking your test with a foreign language voiceover or using a foreign language interpreter for your Theory Test.
