Using the Driving Theory Test 4 in 1 Kit app

So how does it work?

This app is extremely easy to use and comprises 4 main components (hence “4 in 1”):
  • Theory Test
  • Hazard Perception Test
  • Highway Code
  • Road Signs

Many people jump straight into the Theory Test component and start answering questions, but remember that the “revision” theory  test questions in the app though written byte DVSA (who also write the actual theory test questions) are not the exact same questions you’ll be asked in the text. Both the revision and actual theory test questions check your knowledge and understanding of the Highway Code, so make time to thoroughly read and understand the included copy of the Highway Code.

Theory Test module

Answering a question

The Theory Test module offers two modes:
  • Practise Revision Questions
  • Mock Test

In both modes, each question will appear at the top of the screen and the multiple choice answers below.

To select an answer, simply tap on the text and it will change colour. All questions now only require one answer, so once you have made your selection, tap the right arrow button to continue to the next question.
Hints and Help in “Practise” mode

In “Practise” mode additional help is available as you answer the questions. Before you start the Practise session you can select to have the app tell you when you’ve answered a question incorrectly as you move to the next question – the app will allow you to try answering the question again, or you can chose to have the app show you the correct answer.

Do remember to:

  • Use the “HINT” link to see the explanation of why an answer is correct, even if you answered it correctly to make sure you know why the answer was correct.
  • Use the “ILS” (Intelligent Learning System) button at the bottom of the screen – this will show you more information related to the question in the form of text from the Highway Code, a section of the Road Signs module or a video.

Flagging a question

This option is only available in the “Test” mode.
If you are unsure for any reason about your answer in the actual test you have the option to “Flag” that question so that you can come back to it later, after you’ve answered other questions. To flag a question, tap the “Flag” button and at the end of the test you will be given the option to review any flagged questions.

Images

Some questions will have an image for you to view before answering.
Occasionally you may find that you need to zoom into the picture – simply tap on the image with one finger and it will enlarge then tap it again to return to the question.
There are also questions that have only images for answers, when selected your image choice will be highlighted.

Submit your answers

Once you have finished reviewing the flagged questions, tap “Finish” and choose “No” to review flagged questions.

Results

When you have finished a test, you will be presented with your score. If you sat a mock test, you will also be shown your best and worst categories within that test.
You can also review your answers to see where you went wrong and how you can improve for next time. Remember to make good use of the official explanations that will help you to understand the correct answer – the “HINTS” are available when you use the “Review” option after submitting your Mock Test for marking.
Number of questions, time allowed and pass marks

  • ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) Part 1: 100 questions in 90 minutes with an overall pass mark of 85/100 (85%) BUT you must achieve at least 20/25 (80%) in each of the 4 categories of questions.
