What happens on the day of your Hazard Perception Test?

The Hazard Perception Test forms the second part of the Theory Test. Once you have arrived at the test centre and completed the multiple choice part of the Theory Test, you will be given a short break before being shown a video clip about how the second part of the test works.

It’s advisable to pay close attention to the video, so you know exactly what is expected from you during the test. As with the multiple-choice part of your Theory Test, the Hazard Perception Test (Hazard Test) is delivered on a computer, but instead of using the touch screen you respond by clicking the mouse button.

During the test, you’ll be presented with a series of video clips featuring scenes which you’ll see in everyday driving. In each clip, there is at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards. You will not be told which clip features two hazards, so it’s important throughout the entire test to click each time you see a developing hazard.

What is the maximum score in the Hazard Perception Test?

To achieve a high score you’ll need to respond to the developing hazard during the early part of its development. The maximum points you can score for each clip in the Hazard Perception Test is five (75 in total).
